Post Post subject: Island Club v Vic Report 14/07/2008
A strong looking Vic line up went in search of a rare away victory against the Island Club tonight and Stevie Kell even decided to have a practice game before leaving Vic HQ. The late arrival of Nonka appeared to give the away team a full starting line up before Iggy decided to give Captain Kell a selection headache by turning up after helping the cricket team to a home win at the expense of Horden.

Stevie took the easy option of dropping Nonka and playing Ian and gambled with his life as he sat next to the Nonk as he broke the news. Clearly an example of how stupid Stevie really is  Shocked  Shocked

Tommy Cummings, normally good when on first, was also in search of his first win of the season and played R Spence in the opener. Tommy looked confident from the off as he threw some good darts and TC was always ahead in the leg. The only thing that could have let Tom down was his finishing, which was abysmal in the Club, but he made no mistake by taking out double 16 with his first dart.

Ian was on next and took on D Potter in the 2nd leg. Potter was reeling from some excellent opening darts from Iggy who was clearly boosted by helping the cricket team to victory earlier in the evening. A 140 sent him even further ahead but Potter stayed in touch and almost took advantage as Ian missed darts at the double to take the win. Ian finally took out double 4, which was almost missed by the scorer but seen by Eagle Eye Burton almost 30 feet away.

Geordie Jennings, the catalyst behind last weeks win played D Halliday in the 3rd leg and both players threw an excellent leg of darts although George, now powered by ribena, threw berry well. George completed probably the best opening 3 games the Vic have played in a long time with a quality leg of darts which took the Vic into an unexpected 3-0 lead.

Kev Cunningham played K Dickinson in leg 4 and Dickinson got away with an 85 followed by a 60. Decent darts under normal circumstances but Kev's ton and 140 were more than enough to send him well clear. A further ton gave Kev the chance of a 17 dart leg but double trouble got in the way of a brilliant leg and Dickinson clawed his way back into it before punishing Kev's inability to close out the game.

Stevie Kell blasted off with a 180 against S Donaldson in the 5th leg but I missed it as I was playing doms. As much as I'd like to heap some praise and glory on The Stick I can only do it if I witness what happens. A good performance has been long overdue though and I'm more than happy to record a victory for Steve and anyone else who witnessed the leg can add to the report if they so wish.

WIth victory assured, Craig Greenfield played E Donaldson in the 6th leg. Again, I was absent for the doms and Craig must have rattled through through the leg to take his first win in 2 attempts and give the Vic the lead by 5 leg to 1.

Stevie Burton played out the last leg against A McDermott. WIth the game already won, Stevie seemed to be phased by his opponent wearing a Celtic shirt as well as him sharing the name of the Mag's Deputy Assistant Social Manager. McDermott hit double 13 which proved unlucky for Burton as he faltered to a 2nd successive defeat.

The dominoes lined up with Bobby Balls, suntanned and smiling, returning to take the place of Ian Graham. The Dominator retained his place in the starting line up which was completed by Tucker Muncaster and Captain Les Graham.

Tucker went down by 3 legs to 2 in the opener with both players struggling to hold their down. Nonka was on next and seemed to be suffer from thought paralysis as he played some awful doms including wrong 'uns as well as some crap 'uns. (His words not mine).

At 2-0 behind The Dominator, Stevie Burton, played T Duck in a must win leg for The Vic. Duck looked cooked as Stevie ruffled his feathers to go into a 2-1 lead but the home player levelled the game by winning a count on his down. Stevie then produced an excellent final leg to flush Duck down the pan by 3 legs to 2.

Bobby Balls couldn't follow Stevie's lead though and he lost his first game of the season by going down to H Gettings in the 4th leg to keep the pressure of the skipper in the final leg.

Les made it 4 wins out of 4 as he caned A Shaw in the finale to maintain an impressive 100% record.

The lads who turned out on Friday night in the Olive Rooney Trophy won again last Friday night to move into the quarter finals. This week is an away tie against either The Engineers A team. Well done to D "Skinny" Carver for helping the Vic to beat Deneside Club last Friday with an opening throw of 145 in his first ever game for the Vic. A makeshift side did really well to go through and places are up for grabs again this Friday as it clashes with the footy team Presentation Night rendering Craig, Tommy and Ada unavailable.
