Post Post subject: Seaham Park Cricket Club v Vic Result 01/09/2008
After a 2 week gap the Vic went to Seaham Park CC trying to avoid 6 successive defeats for the darts team after a promising start to the season but we went down in a close game by the odd leg in 7. The dominoes team, with Captain Les Graham returning from injury got a right mullering and went down 4 games to 1. The challenge this week is to try and guess the winner from a line up of Les Graham, Bobby Balls, Ian Graham, Norman McKenna and Tucker Muncaster. If you want to cheat just scroll to the bottom of the report and find out  Very Happy  Very Happy

Anyway, for those that like reading the reports the darts team lined up with Stevie Kell, returning from Portugal without a criminal record (unlike Chrissy Walton), George Jennings, Norman McKenna, Stevie Burton, Ian Graham, Tommy Cummings and Kevin Cunningham.

Nonka got the match underway with an 81 against G Middleton who threw a 45 for the Park. Norman chucked some steady arras but just failed to hit some decent scores and allowed Middleton to edge into the lead and a ton then sent the Park lad clear. Norman responded towards the end but Middleton managed to take out the double to give the Park the lead against the throw.

Ian Graham played D Kennedy in leg 2 and Kenna started steadily with a 60 which Ian replied to with a 41. Kenna played his usual steady leg and was well ahead before Ian mounted a challenge with scores of 85 and a ton. The match was so tight that the marker had to leave to change his keks although he later put it down to a phone call from somebody called "Bitch"  Very Happy  Very Happy . As Kenna looked nervous around his double Ian again came back with a good score to give the Vic an outside chance of the leg but the home player hit double 4 with Iggy waiting on the same double.

At 2-0 down the Vic desperately hoped that Stevie Burton could return to winning ways and he was up against D Rought for the Park. Stevie hit an 85 for starters and followed up with a ton, a 60 and another 85 but Rought dug in and a couple of tons made for a close game. Stevie left himself 68 and Rought hit a big shot to leave double 2 after only 21 darts. Stevie then went the unorthodox route of 1, 17 and bull to take a memorable leg and get back to winning ways with a 24 darter.

Stevie Kell, full of cheap Port, Vino, Sherry and shite  Cool played next against M Anderson and Stevie, looking more tanned than usual, got away with an 81 in reply to Andersons 37. Anderson then hit a ton of his own and both players then played a cracking game with consistent high scores. A failure to hit the double looked likely to cost Steve but Anderson then followed suit and it came down to a double 1 shootout. My bladder had had enough by then and I had to go to the sheds which must have taken the pressure of Kell as he checked out next time to level the match.

With Cummings, Jennings and Cunningham to come it looked like the Vic could be on the way to ending their sorry 5 match losing streak but Tommy had struggled to win all season up to now and was looking forward to going on holiday the following day. He played D Dobson in leg 5 and couldn't have asked for a more consistent leg as he hit 5 scores of 60 plus a ton to look like an easy winner. Dobson battled away and had some good scores of his own but Tommy never looked like finishing after he left himself double 1 which left Dobson to complete the fightback and take an unexpected victory.

George Jennings played S Henderson in leg 6 and a poor start from Henderson was seized on by Geordie with an 85, Henderson then hit a ton which George responded to with an 81 and both players threw several 80+ scores in an even contest. Again it came down to whose nerve would hold on the doubles and George missed out as Henderson nailed double 18 to take the leg and the match for the Park.

Kevin Cunningham, so often having to play when the match was lost took on D Brace in the 7th leg and Kev gave another master class by swooping to victory to give the eventual scoreline of 4-3 to the Park.

In fairness the game could have gone either way but the Park lads took out their doubles when it mattered which was the difference at the end of the night so well done to the lads who played.

In the dominoes Les Graham returned to select the side which had a familiar look to it as Tucker Muncaster returned from hospitalisation to join Norman McKenna , Bobby Balls and Ian Graham. To stop Ballsy twisting about who's won what so far this season I've included the individual performances so far. After a run of 4 defeats in 5 (excluding the result away to NSCC as I don't have the scores) the Vic still lined up with a familiar looking line up of Les Graham ( 5 wins 1 defeat), Norman McKenna ( 3 wins 4 defeats), Bobby Balls (4 wins 3 defeats), Ian Graham (1 win 5 defeats) and Tucker Muncaster ( 4 wins 3 defeats). The Dominator (like Shaun Wright-Phillips playing for Chelsea) with a strike rate of 2 wins from 5 must be wondering how he can get back into the side and the other 2 players (George Jennings and Eddie Williamson) have both lost their only games this season.

Bobby Balls played G Edwards in the opener and Bobby suffered defeat which was shortly followed by Nonka who despatched D Kennedy to level the match.

Les Graham then suffered a defeat against D Brace before son Ian went down to G Slater to give the Park the win. Tucker Muncaster lost the final leg to M Anderson to give the Park a 4-1 victory.

Can't really comment on who played well or who was unlucky in the doms as the games were played in an area where spectating was at a premium and having watched Sunderland capitulate at the hands of Man City the previous day maybe that was a blessing.

Next league meeting will be on Sunday (7 September) when the next Cup game will be drawn and the league tables will be released.

The next league game will be at home to the Lord Byron who have struggled to do anything but drink heavily in every game so far this season.
