Post Post subject: Vic v Mallard Report 22/09/2008
Not much to report tonight as every game was like groundhog day with both teams having plenty of chances to win each leg but the Mallard proved the more consistent by taking 5 out of the 7 legs.

The dominoes went along a similar route with the Vic losing the first 3 chalks before a late fightback restored some respectability to leave the final score as 3-2 to the Mallard.

Ian Graham played the opener for the Vic, taking on Sean Drummond, sporting a really horrible football shirt. Ian wasn't phased though and both players played out an even opening leg over the first 15 darts. Sean then threw a ton followed by a 138 to take a big lead but failure to hit a double allowed Ian to close the gap. Both players had chances but Sean hit double 5 to take the opener.

Stevie Kell played R Malarkey in leg 2 and both players hit 40 odd scores in their opening 3 visits before Kell hit some form and went well clear. Again, Steve struggled to finish but eventually closed the match out as Malarkey waited on a 2 darter.

Craig Greenfield took on Ian Thoms in leg 4 and once more both players found it hard going. In another even contest it was Thoms who took the leg with Greenfield waiting on a double.

Norman McKenna, clearly struggling to throw darts at the board, played K Hills in leg 4 and Norman was right up against it as Hills hit an 85 which Norman replied to with 1 dart out of the board. Nonka's poor throwing seemed to bring Hills right down though and a titanic struggle ended after Norman had tried to be the first player to win by playing left and right handed in the same game as Hills finished with double 1.

Tommy Cummings, back from Salou as the proud owner of some incredibly vicious farts, played A Williams in the next leg. Both players started with 60's but Tommy then played some really good darts to move well clear. Once again though, with the winning line in sight, Tommy froze on his doubles and allowed Williams to take the leg.

The battle of the SB's followed as Stevie Burton took on Steve Bolton - Burton got away with 12 poor darts and Bolton went ahead with an opening throw of a ton before some erratic darts made it a tight game. Burton improved and was first to a double but having missed a shot at tops for a 110 checkout, then 3 more at double top, Bolton managed to take out double 16 to give the Mallard a 5-1 lead.

George Jennings played S Anderson in the last leg and again it was a case of deja vu as both players had some decent scores before battling it out on the doubles. This time George changed the sequence as he took out double 1 to make the final score 5-2 to The Mallard.

The dominoes, having lost 3-0 on Friday in the defence of the Team Trophy, wilted from the start as Les Graham lost to M McKenzie and Norman McKenna lost comfortably to A Turnbull.

Victory was assured for the Mallard as Bobby Balls lost out to R Malarkey before Tucker Muncaster and Ian Graham took a win apiece at the expense of Stevie Wonder and Roy Orbison.  Cool  Cool

I'll be away for the next 2 weeks so reports might not get done but the games are away to Parkside Club next Monday followed by an away trip to Mitchells of Seaham on October 6th. In between, the next league meeting will be held on Sunday 5 October which Les Graham will be going along to in my absence.
