Having won our opening derby game of the season against the Top Club the Vic went into tonight's contest against the Legion in good spirits with 2 wins from our last 3 league games. The Legion current sit 2nd in the league with an identical leg score to the leaders The George who we play next week so it's a tough couple of weeks for the Vic.
Crag Greenfield had the task of taking on Shaun Ruddock in the opening legs and was further hampered by Shaun having the throw. An even opening 15 darts had Craig only 25 points behind by Ruddock then stepped up a gear as Craig faltered and although Shaun missed a few darts at doubles he took an easy victory although Craig wasn't too far behind.
Stevie Burton played Kev Dyson in leg 2 and Stevie got off to a flyer with a 140 and follwoed up with 3 60s but Kev always seemed to grind out some decent scores of his own and he was first to a double with a 140 of his own. Stevie missed 2 darts at tops and Kev took out double 4 to take a close game.
George Jennings played Eddie Guy in the next leg and George must have thought it was still Halloween as he threw a horror show of his own. Eddie was never troubled and opening throws of 140 and 100 made the job easy for him as he finished on 80 to record a 21 darter.
Ian Graham played the SIlver Ferret, Paul Bamborough, in the next leg and both players struggled to make an impression on the scoring. Bamborough was slightly more consistent and a dart into treble 14 leg him a single dart finish. Ian loast his way but still had a chance to win the leg on double 18 but narrowly missed to allow the away team to record another leg with double 2.
Kev Cunningham took on John Noble in leg 5 and although Kev got away with a ton once again both players really struggled to find scoring easy. Kev managed to throw marginally better however and the Vic were rewarded with their first leg of the night as Kev checked out on double 2.
Stevie Kell played Tommy Hudson in the 6th leg. Steve started off well and held an advantage over Tommy after the first 9 darts and always seemed to be in control. Tommy made a late surge with a 115 to leave him on a 3 dart finish before Steve hit treble 17 when needing 53 to leave double 1. 2 visits to the madhouse later and Tommy put Steve out of his misery with a checkout on 44 of double 4 followed by double 18.
That wasn't the end of the showboating though and it was left to Tommy Cummings to play Neil Mather in the last leg. Neil played uncharacteristically poorly (or shite in his own words) and Tommy kept a narrow lead without playing particularly well himself. With both players out of form it was tip and tuck all the way but Tommy ended Neil's resistance as he joined Burton in the "Bullseye Bandit Club" with a bull finish. Mooooooooooooooooooo
The dominoes team surged into a 3-0 lead thanks to victories by George Jennings against Joe Parkinson, Tucker mUncaster against Micky Stoker and Ian Graham who beat Billy Brewster.
The last 2 let the side down though as Les Graham decided that he'd save himself for a win when it matters as he went down to J Ruddock and Norman McKenna adopted a similar attitude as he lost out to Graeme Mather.
The Vic lost out in the opening round of the pairs 20 doubles competition last Friday and the individual dominoes. The final of both competitions will be played at the Vic this Friday so feel free to go along and see some of the least spectator friendly competitions starting at 8pm.
