Dawdon Welfare v Vic Report 20/10/2008

Just a very brief report as I don't want to get accused of just wanting to wallow in the glory of watching the Vic darts team return to winning ways at long last.

Steve Kell played the left handed PT in the opener. Both players threw brilliantly until they were down to a double and then it became a battle of nerves. PT won the battle by hitting double 1 after both had missed umpteen darts.

George Jennings played JS in leg 2 and an even leg went the same way as the first leg only with lots more chalk being required to mark some average scores. Unlike Steve though, George managed to take out his double to level the match.

Stevie Burton played the same opponent as I always do (P Gustard) and the final score had a familiar look to it as the home player took a 17 dart leg with Stevie way back on 200+ after having another nightmare on the oche.

Tommy Cummings played next and took on SS - Tommy was the only one firing his own gas clouds this time around though and is fast building an excellent guff producing reputation amongst those who know a good fart when they breathe one  Cool  Cool  Tommy played a steady leg but scoring hasn't been a problem for him all season but his failure to hit doubles has cost him what should be an excellent win ratio. Thankfully his opponent also struggled and Tommy took a nervy leg to make it 2 apiece.

Ian Graham played PD in the next leg, brought forward as their dart player was being tamed by Geordie Jennings on the doms board. Ian had shown some good form in practice but it didn't materialise in the match however and Ian lost out to leave the Vic needing to win the last 2 legs.

Kev Cunningham played M Price in the 6th leg, Price having just been softened up by Geordie Jennings spellbinding dominoes moments earlier and he was clearly still shellshocked as he lost out in another nervy encounter to level the match for the 3rd time on the night.

Craig Greenfield played another left armer, AS, in the last leg knowing that a win for him would give the Vic the lead for the first but most important time on the night. A ton from Craig with his opening 3 darts was a good start but the leg then became a nervy affair once more as both players knew the pressure of winning the match was on their shoulders. The game was close all th eway and in a repeat of many earlier legs both players suffered problems trying to hit a double. A shout from Kev Cunningham would normally have meant a win for the Vic player but Kev was too busy reeling from the shock of the barcodes going ahead in the footy. However, moments later the rest of the lads were celebrating as Craig secured the vital leg to end the Vic's dismal run.

Les Graham got the doms off to a flyer by defeating S Dunn in the first leg of the dominoes but parity was soon restored as Tucker Muncaster lost to J Smith.

Bobby Balls then made it a hat-trick of wins by taking out T Lumsden before George Jenings wrapped up the win by defeating M Price. Ian Graham lost the pointless last leg against an unknown opponent.

Next match is in the league at home to the Engineers A on Monday 27 October.
