Vic v Duke of Seaham result 04/02/2008Sorry for the delay lads and lasses - was at a funeral yesterday afternoon and was too tired to type up the report before bed last night.
Gash has already given an insight as to what was on the cards early doors last night but sadly a whitewash wasn't forthcoming and the doms suffered a late turnaround in the 2nd half of their encounter.
The darts were delighted to welcome back Kev Cunningham to the fold after weeks on enforced exile and hopefully Kev will be able to play for the remainder of the season which gave everyone a major boost in the lead up to what was expected to be a difficult game against a side cemented to mid-table with 14 wins from 28 matches so far.
Geordie Jennings got things underway and he played J Harvey in the opener. George scored well throughout and took a good game in 25 darts to give the Vic a 1-0 lead.
Stevie Kell played D Gillibrand in the second leg and Steve was just as hot as he scorched to an excellent 24 dart leg to give the home side a 2-0 advantage.
Kev Cunningham blew away any cobwebs in the 3rd leg and his opponent, A Davison, was little more than a spectator as Kev powered to a 21 dart leg to gave the Vic a 3-0 lead.
Tommy Cummings suffered some wayward darts in his game but was helped by his opponent, T Eccleston, throwing what Sid Waddell would describe as "Bags of Nails". Had they been bags of chips Tommy might well have been distracted, but he held on to take the leg and the match as the Vic cruised into an unassailable 4-0 lead.
Ian Graham was up next and played W Willis who was bidding to take the 1st leg for the Duke. Iggy was having none of it though and threw some canny darts plus a few of the usual spanners but did enough to take the leg as both players suffered a few hiccups on their doubles.
WIth a 5-0 lead and the skipper still to come it looked like the whitewash might be possible. However Martyn kept the pressure away from anchor man Burton by going down at the hands of M A Bell who had the consolation of taking the Duke's first leg whilst avoiding the whitewash at the same time.
Stevie Burton took his season record to 0-11 as he went down in typical fashion against M I Bell, an opponent who seemed to have the knack of hitting trebles off to a fine art. Especially treble 18, 12 and 9.
The final score of 5-2 was a reverse of the result that the Vic had when we met the Duke earlier in the season so that's a positive factor to take into next weeks match against the lowly Navy Club who have surprised a few sides so far this season with more wins than they seem to have had throughout the whole of the last few seasons.
The dominoes got off to a flier as Nonka secured the opening leg at the expense of B Bell which was followed up by Tucker Muncaster beating A Davison in the 2nd leg.
At this point Gash left the Club and this was to prove to be the turning point for the dominoes team as they then failed to secure the single leg which would have ended with victory.
Bobby Balls lost the 3rd leg against John Squire before Les Graham was also sent to losers corner by G Steele. At 2-2, the usually reliable Iggy suffered the same fate as his dad as he was edged out by K Miller to give the visitors a 3-2 victory.
I'll try and spend a few weekends at home now so that the reports are done in the same week
