Vic v Vane Tempest Report 21/07/2008The Vic saw a double defeat tonight as the darts suffered a 6-1 thrashing with only Kev Cunningham taking a leg off the opposition while the dominoes saw first time defeats for Stevie Burton and Les Graham on the way to a 3-2 loss.
The opening leg of darts saw George Jennings up against Davy Pattison. George is still confined to alcohol free drinks after his DVT scare but this didn't get in the way of him hitting some great darts which were matched by Pattison. The bespectacled visitor kept up the pressure on George and George lost his temper at one point having had to endure some "unsportsmanlike" calling out when aiming for his double. George was clearly distracted from his game which enabled Pattison to take the opening leg. No blame at all attached to the player but George clearly felt aggrieved at the off oche antics.
Ian Graham played D Jane in the next and the atmosphere still seemed to be a bit tense between the 2 sides but Jane managed to take a very good leg of darts to send the Seaham team into a 2-0 lead.
Stevie Kell played R McGlennon in the 3rd leg and Stevies early good form seemed set to continue. After a shaky start he hit a couple of big scores and McGlennon seemed to be at odds with himself. However, a succession of good scores by the away player sent him clear and a batle of the doubles was taken by the Tempest to give them a 3-0 advantage.
Norman McKenna was up against the mullet topped Jimmy Armstrong in leg 4 and The Mullet threw the decisive bullets to take an easy victory against the Action Man and the game was over for the Vic.
Kev Cunningham gave the Vic our only highlight as he took an excellent 20 dart leg out against M Leybourne who was still searching for 3 good darts by the time the leg was over.
Stevie Burton took on Trevor Madeley in leg 6 and both players played poorly throughout the leg but a 100 from Madeley at the tail end of the game saw him take the advantage. Stevie was still on a 3 darter by the time Madeley took out double 16 to take a deserved victory.
Tommy Cummings continued his unimpressive early season form as he was blown away by Tony Gale in the final leg.
A 6-1 routing was a little harsh on the home team but the table doesn't lie and the Tempest finished in the top 4 last season and look set for an equally good season this time around.
The dominoes made it 3 wins from 5 with a titanic struggle before edging the visitors out by 3 legs to 2 with Nonka McKenna playing a re-drawn game on the way to securing a good win for the Vic.
Bobby Balls made it yet another victory as he defeated M Leybourn in leg 1 and Tommy Muncaster turned in a great performance to take out R Jane in the 2nd leg.
Les Graham suffered his first defeat of the season as he lost out to J Fletcher but victory was the Vics after Nonka played out a controversial game against R McGlennon. After both players had shaken hands at the end of the 4th leg Norman presumed he'd taken the leg, However, in a bizarre twist he was summoned back to replay the leg after an allegation had been made of an illegal domino being downed. Despite the rules stating that the leg was over after both players had shaken hands, Norman sportingly gave McGlennon another go and fortunately he still won the down which gave the home team an unasaillable 3-1 lead.
Stevie Burton played out the last leg and suffered a 3-0 demolition at the hands of M Leyburn which unceremoniously ended The Dominators unbeaten run.
By the time the 2 teams parted everyone seemed to have put the controversial issues behind them and the good banter between the teams had returned.
Sorry for the time it's taken to do the report but I got there in the end
