Post Post subject: Deneside Club v Vic Result 17/12/2007
At the start of the year, our opening match of 2007 saw us play Deneside Club away which ended up with a 4-3 reverse with a last leg defeat. This time around the match score was the same but the result was different as Nerveless Nonka took the deciding leg to hand the Vic a suberb victory to end the year.

Iggy played I Thirkell in the opening leg and Iggy started steadily with a couple of 60s which were matched by Thirkell. A ton by the home player was responded to with an 81 by Iggy but a miserable 3 with the next throw looked to have sunk his chances. As has become customary in Ian's games, a battle of doubles followed but the big lad did the business and IG stuck double top to win the opener.

Craig Greenfield, who had lost his previous 5 legs was up next, desperate to end his losing sequence and Craig started out strongly against J Kennedy, subject to "Where's Wally?" chants from his teammates for an unfortunate choice of sweater wear. Craig scored well throughout and was in with an 18 darter before struggling to hit a double, despite choosing most on the board. The relief was evident as Craig stuck double 9 as Kennedy had left himself on a 2 dart checkout.

At 2-0 ahead the Vic looked to Tommy Cummings to take a 3-0 advantage. Tommy had a shocker by his own high standards and he ended up ringing Dale to use up some free minutes rather than phoning the bairn with tales of victory. Tommy failed to hit a single treble but in fairness to his opponent, J Banks, who had thrown a solid leg of darts, the home player was full value to take the scalp of the Leg End. Tommy later managed to secure a double by stuffing 2 hot dog sausages into a finger bun smeared with brown sauce despite everyone else being content with a single sausage. As a consequence the last lad had a finger bun stuffed with onions.

After the disappointment of Tommy's loss, George played d Ruddock in leg 4 and George set away like a train with scores of 100, 125 and another ton. Mindful of the fact that his doubling had been iffy, George had a huge lead by the time he was down to a double and Ruddock was still in the 200s by the time that George hit double 8 to take a 19 dart leg.

Martyn Cooke was up next against Stephen "Enrique" Guy and the Vic looked certain victors as Martyn surged into a commanding lead, helped by Martyn's high scoring and Stephen's poor scoring. Martyn was absolutely miles ahead and Guy hit a score of 8 along the way and it looked impossible for him to get back into the game. However, Martyn missed a succession of doubles and Guy chipped away to eventually take out double top to bring the home team back into the game.

Home talisman Kevin Breeze, final leg winner in our last meeting, played Steve Kell in the 6th leg in what turned out to be the game of the night. Breeze started with hitting 2 60s and an 81 with Kell hitting a ton and some high 60s. Breeze then put daylight between the players with a great 140 only for Kell to hit a 123 of his own. Kell was down to just 61 after 18 darts but Kevin took an excellent leg by taking out tops to level the match score.

Nonka played B Charlton in the decider and the Vic lads were thinking that missed chances were to cost them dearly again. However, as he's done all season, Nonka held his nerve to play out a nervy final leg by hitting a couple of tons to give him loads of darts at a finish. Missed doubles almost cost him victory as Charlton fought back to miss a few doubles of his own before Nonk planted his first dart at double 4 to send the away team into victory lane.

The dominoes failed to match the darts lads victory as another defeat was handed out to them.

Bobby Balls lost the opener, despite leading 2-1 and Iggy made it back to back losses as he went down to D Atkinson. Nonka brought the Vic back into contention as he wrapped up yet another victory in the 3rd leg at the expense of S Gleghorn.

Game over after the next leg as Les endured another loss in a miserable run but Tucker Muncaster ended his own personal losing streak by taking victory over Stevie Wonder in the last leg.

No game for a few weeks now due to the Christmas (or should that be Winter Festival  Rolling Eyes  Rolling Eyes  Rolling Eyes  Rolling Eyes ) break. Next game is at home to the Island Club on Monday 7 January 2008 with a Cup Match the following Friday.

In the meantime All The Best to everyone from the Darts and Dominoes Section. Except any Mags  Cool  Cool  Cool

Aye Gash, we played Deneside Club at the start of the year and our last league game this year was also away to the same team. Just tried to put the result into context that we lost 4-3 at the beginning of the year but took revenge by beating them 4-3 at the end of the year.

I know what I was trying to say but it must have got lost somewhere along the line  Embarassed

I understood it mind  Very Happy
